Powering Business Agility and Scale - The IT Mandate

I have been using SAP for 15 years, but now we need to change to keep pace with fast changing technology. Although hardware maintenance or change incurs cost, in today’s world we have to be agile to survive. Convincing stakeholders is a huge task and CIOs need to decide what adds more agility – infrastructure or software? Cloud service providers are selling scalability, attractive infrastructure costs models and secured environment. However, one needs to understand if the platform is really scalable before putting it on cloud. If applications on cloud do not interact with cloud scalability, one doesn’t get the right results and costs increase.

Digital Disruptions not only threaten the very core of an organization’s business but also present an opportunity to innovate and excel. How are you responding to the new changes and applying digital transformation strategy in your organization?

Today's technologies are making it possible to be more agile in terms of resource planning and deployment by enabling control over mobility and social networking. This 'dynamic' ERP has revolutionised businesses like IT, media and content delivery. We are also seeing that this business model is being peddled by the IT vendors as what we call 'Cloud Computing' . Doubtlessly, it is bringing in advantages to organizations in terms of increasing operational efficiencies of IT service delivery to both internal and external customers. We are evaluating some of these. But we need to see more innovative licensing models that optimise not only the cloud deployment cycle but also sustainability in terms of more granular control over licensing of cloud resources.

On the market 'presence' side also we see a lot of new interesting technology platforms that helps gather social intelligence on product / services offerings. Over the last decade this has enabled phenomenal market expansion even for smaller enterprises. We use the powers of some of these platforms like facebook and are evaluating integrated collaboration on Skype.

On the flip side we are perturbed by efforts in the IT industry from more open platforms like JAVA to proprietary ones being patronised by the likes of facbook and Amazon. This may turn out to be counter-innovative in spite of being promoted by today's innovation leaders
